Then, have the conversation with your family to

express your desire to be an organ donor.

Family support is just as important as registering.

Many people, who've registered as organ donors, do not have their wishes honored because their families were unaware of their desire to be an organ donor.

The Don't Bury Me organization is dedicated to the over 120,000 men, women and children who are suffering right now, waiting for a life saving organ transplant in America.  On average more than 20 people die every day while waiting on the transplant list.  The wait can be excruciatingly long and painful.
How do I know?  My name is Bill, I'm 21, and I was dying.  I was not a candidate for a living donor.  I was born with a rare disease that lead to me being in end stage liver and kidney failure.  The only cure was a transplant.  If I did not receive a life saving gift my family would have had to bury me.  After 578 days on the transplant waiting list I received the call, and was transplanted on day 579.  I was blessed, but many people are not as fortunate.
Many will bury their grandparents, husbands, wives, partners, parents, friends, sons, and daughters because there are not enough organ donors to save everyone who is in need.  So much unnecessary suffering and death, but it doesn't have to be this way.
Together we can make a difference that will save so many lives.  The cure is really love, the kind of love that finds light in the midst of tragedy.  I don't hope for anyone to die to save another, but I do hope that when someone dies that they are an organ donor, so that others might live.  No one in this country should die waiting on a transplant list.
I can't stop spreading this message until the day every person on the transplant list has a chance at life.  Before I received my gift, I told my parents that even if I was to die that they must keep sharing this message.  I invite you to join me.  Together we can put an end to all this needless anguish and death.  Become an organ donor today.  Have the conversation with your family to ensure your wishes are honored.  Share this message with others.

Organ donation is not a tragedy, rather a beautiful light in the midst of one.
